Description

This original 1941 Hollywood Stars score book and program was autographed in pencil throughout by most of the Philadelphia Athletics team plus three Pittsburgh Pirates who played a spring training game there. There are 27 total signatures including legendary Hall of Famers Honus Wagner, who coached for the Pirates for decades after his playing career, and Al Simmons, who did the same for the Athletics. The other signatures include Philadelphia Athletics coaches Earle Mack (son of Connie Mack), Earle Brucker and players Johnny Bebich, Bill Beckman, Herman Besse, Al Brancato, Sam Chapman, Crash Davis (the Bull Durham movie's main character was named after him), Chubby Dean, Indian Bob Johnson (signed twice), Jack Knott (signed twice), John Leovich, Les McCrabb, Nels Potter, Buck Ross, Tex Shirley, Pete Suder, Hal Wagner; minor leaguers Roy House, Tom Lloyd and Lou McCollum; Pittsburgh Pirates coach Johnny Gooch and first baseman Ripper Collins.
All the signatures were obtained in person by Dave Rosenfield, who later became an accomplished minor league executive with the Norfolk Tides and was inducted into the International League Hall of Fame in 2008. The program is in typical condition for its age with wrinkling and creases, but no serious flaws. Authenticated by JSA with their Letter of Authenticity and a Letter of Provenance from Rosenfield on Norfolk Tides letterhead. This is obviously a unique piece of baseball history.
