WILLIE MCGEE St. Louis Cardinals, 85 NL MVP; 1977 Minor League Team Autographed ProgramThis is a 16 page paper program from the summer of 1977, obtained at a NY-Penn League Single A game between the Oneonta Yankees and the Batavia Trojans, a Cleveland Indians affiliate. Willie McGee was a rookie center field for the O-Yanks that season, his first as a pro player, and we kids scrounged for autographs after the games. Willie signed the front cover of this program for me in pencil above the word "Yankees" printed in red ink. This cover was also signed by five of his O-Yanks teammates. One of those autographs (in blue ink) belongs to Dominican infielder and future major leaguer Rafael Santana. The program is in good shape with a minimal bit of cover wear, and includes an unused scorecard on the center pages. Also included is an unattached four page roster insert which lists McGee first on the roster. This roster has some players names circled in ink on a statistics chart.
WILLIE MCGEE is a member of the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame. His achievements include 1985 NL MVP, two time NL batting title winner, three time Golden Glove award winner, four time All Star, and outstanding performance for the 1982 World Series champion team.
RAFAEL SANTANA entered the major leagues in 1983 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and earned a ring as the shortstop for the 1986 World Champion NY Mets. He was consider a light-hitting player with outstanding fielding skills.
